Driver pre-screening is paramount in our hiring process. We only allow the safest professionals to handle your freight. We understand that running your business is the most important item on your daily task list. Driver and vehicle safety and compliance can be overwhelming and expensive. Unfortunately, failing to maintain safety and compliance can be even worse.
By using our services ALL driver and vehicle safety, compliance and liability will rest on our shoulders! Driver Pre-Screening Requirements
Minimum Federal Requirements
The Federal Regulations set forth minimum standards for drivers of all vehicles over 10,000 lbs GVW or GVWR operating in interstate commerce. The driver must demonstration that he/she:
Is 21 years of age
Can sufficiently speak the English language
Can safely operate the type of equipment he/she will be assigned to driver
Is physically qualified
Has a valid license to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV)
Has provided Freight First with a list of moving violations for the past three years
Is not disqualified to drive
Has a road test certificate or equivalent (usually CDL)
Additional Guidelines for Freight First Drivers
Freight First also maintains more stringent hiring guidelines for drivers as follows:
A minimum of 1 year of recent¹ experience driving the type of equipment that the driver will be assigned to operate.
No DOT defined accidents² in the past three years in which the driver was cited for a moving violation in connection with the crash or charged with responsibility for the crash – in any type of motor vehicle.
No more that 3 moving violations in the past 3 years in any type of motor vehicle.
No convictions for any of the following offenses in the past 7 years in any type of vehicle:
Driving under the influence of alcohol (as prescribed by state law, or refusing to test)
Driving under the influence of a controlled substance
Leaving the scene of an accident
More than one excessive speeding (15 mph or more above the posted speed limit)
Reckless driving
A moving violation in connection with a fatal accident
Vehicular manslaughter or vehicular homicide
Eluding a police officer
Operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license
Felony Convictions – No felony convictions or confinement for conviction of a criminal offense (regardless of severity) in the past seven years.
¹Recent is defined as within the past 24 months.
²A DOT defined crash is one resulting in a fatality, or injury requiring treatment away from the scene, or disabling damage requiring a vehicle to be towed.
